Connection Focused Therapy for High-Achievers and Perfectionists

If you identify as a high-achiever or perfectionist, you may notice difficulty when reaching out for support. You may be worried that it says something about your worth or your ability if you seek out help, when in reality, it takes a lot of bravery and courage to speak up when something isn’t working. So if you notice that little voice saying ‘you should be able to do this on your own’, I’m going to encourage you to gently and kindly ask that part to step aside so you can finally start your journey. Our goal isn’t to get rid of this part, but to get to know it deeply and find ways where you can ‘work together’ as a team.

If you’ve found your way here, I’m guessing that you might be feeling the weight of burnout or expectations you’ve set for yourself in your personal or work life. You feel that your worth is tied to producing more and only doing something if you can achieve perfection. You identify as a deep feeler or thinker. You notice constant anxious thoughts about not being enough or having to prove yourself and you don’t know any other way to be. Instead of pushing all of this away, I seek to lean into these qualities, seeing them as strengths, and learn how each one serves a purpose.
