Telehealth services are available for residents in Colorado and Virginia.
Individual Therapy in Colorado
How Does Individual Therapy Work?
When we meet, you are encouraged to show up exactly where you’re at and with whatever support you need - whether that’s shoes off, under a blanket, in your favorite lounge clothes, or with your go-to drink/snack! You don’t have to be ‘put together’ or ‘have it all figured out’ to benefit from therapy; therapy works the best when you feel comfortable, grounded, and supported.

It takes courage and strength to be here, so welcome! You can connect with us through email, call, or text to schedule a complementary phone consultation. In this call, we’ll learn more about each other and your goals for therapy. You will also be able to ask questions about rates, insurance, and any other logistics you’d like clarification on. If we decide that we are a good fit and you would like to proceed with working together, the next steps will be completing intake paperwork sent to you via email through a secure client portal called Simple Practice.

Sessions can be held virtually or in-person at my office in Arvada, CO. Most therapy sessions are between 50-55 minutes. I recommend meeting weekly for the first month or two, in order to build a solid foundation for our work together. After this period, we can explore moving sessions to biweekly to accommodate your schedule if needed. One thing to note is that progress is typically seen quicker if we continue to meet weekly, compared to biweekly.

At the intake, we will determine our treatment goals based on what you are hoping to get out of therapy. Those goals will go into our treatment plan, along with a diagnosis based on your current symptoms. I whole-heartedly believe that symptoms and a diagnosis does not define a person - you are so much more than a diagnosis on a treatment plan. Because I do accept insurance as a way to increase access to care, insurance companies require a diagnosis in order to reimburse any appointments we have. Our treatment plan and goals will be reviewed every 3-6 months in order to reflect and celebrate progress made, as well as adjust goals if needed.

This is different for everyone. For some individuals, a few sessions is all it takes. For others, deep exploration and healing might occur over the span of several months or longer. We’re an open door practice and see many of our clients over the course of years, as they face the different challenges that come up in adult life.

What Else Should I Know?
-
If you are unable to attend a therapy appointment, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. In the event of a no-show or late-cancellation within the 24 hour window, you will be charged the full amount of the missed session or a flat fee of $110 if you are using insurance. I offer one late cancellation or no-show grace per client. After that, any late cancellations, reschedules, or no-shows will be charged in full. Special consideration may be given in the case of an emergency or sudden illness, at my discretion.

The simple answer is yes! Since COVID, virtual meetings have become a norm in our daily lives. And, because of the convenience they afford, it’s likely to stay that way. There are numerous benefits to online therapy, particularly for those who work from home, have children and/or busy schedules, are COVID-conscious, live in a rural area, or value increased privacy (and the list goes on)! Thanks to a variety of new and innovative technologies, EMDR can be just as effective online as well.

At this time, I have a small caseload of children and teen clients. These openings are limited, so please inquire about child/teen openings in our phone consultation.
I also don’t provide treatment for primary psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder. If you’re seeking support in these areas, I’m happy to offer referrals to trusted providers who specialize in this type of care.

I am able to provide superbills for those with out-of-network insurance plans. I also accept self-pay clients so you are welcome to use or opt-out of using insurance at any time.
If you would like to be proactive, you can check you coverage carefully by calling the number on the back of your card and asking the following questions:
Do I have mental health benefits?
What is my deductible and has it been met?
How many sessions per year does my health insurance allow?
What is my co-pay?
-
I utilize Headway and Collective Counseling Solutions for billing purposes. Depending on your insurance, I may use one over the other. Due to this, your client portal through Simple Practice will likely say ‘Collective Counseling Solutions’ instead of Bright Connections Counseling.

Modalities I Use In Therapy
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) is a trauma therapy that was created by Francine Shapiro in 1987 to address symptoms of PTSD. Since then, it’s been proven to effectively treat a variety of diagnoses. EMDR is different from traditional talk therapy, using the wisdom of the body and brain to heal from the ‘stuck’ feelings or beliefs you may be have about yourself and/or the world. EMDR treats a variety of concerns, including: Grief & loss, body image issues, miscarriage & infertility, shame, anxiety & panic attacks, childhood trauma and attachment issues, and relationships.
EMDR heals the past, so you can truly experience the present, and have hope for the future.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based therapy, helping people heal by accessing and healing their protective and wounded inner parts of self. IFS creates inner and outer connectedness by helping people first access their Self and, from that core, come to understand and heal their parts.
“Health comes from integration. It’s that simple, and that important. A system that is integrated is in a flow of harmony. Each part is honored for its unique qualities while also working in harmony with all the others.”
- Richard C. Schwartz
Synergetic Play Therapy (SPT)
Synergetic Play Therapy (SPT) is a research-informed model of therapy blending the therapeutic power of play with nervous system regulation, interpersonal neurobiology, physics, attachment, mindfulness, and therapist authenticity. Simply, it’s the relationship between therapist and client that promotes healing and offers strategies with how to cope with difficult feelings. Through this model, we will explore your emotional responses and find new, healthy ways to express feelings. While SPT is often used with kids, it can also be used with teens and adults.
